Stopping  Sight Distance  (SSD )

The minimum distance visible  to a  driver ahead or the sight distance available on a highway at any spot should be sufficient length to safety stop a vehicle travelling at design speed without collision with any other obstruction. Therefore, this stopping sight distance (SSD) is also called absolute minimum sight distance. This is also sometimes called Non-Passing sight distance.
